The countdown is officially on!

What?  Did you just say I have four days left in Iraq?  Woot!  The closer it gets, the longer it takes to get there though!  Have a lot of things going on between now and the day I leave, so hopefully that will help make the time go by.  I am pretty much all packed already, so that is good too.  I have so many things to look forward to when I get home too...

I have a spa day scheduled for next week here.  I can't wait!  A massage, facial, spa pedicure, haircut and ear candling, along with lunch.  Seriously can't wait for all that pampering!

I ordered new bedroom furniture.  It gets delivered about a week after I get home.  I figured it was time to finish the bedroom and I have saved a lot of money out here, so I took the plunge!

I will be heading to Jekyll Island for a long weekend with at least my sister and her sister in law.  My brother in law doesn't know if he wants to subject himself to all that estrogen!  :)  I have talked about it before and I can't wait to drink fruity drinks by the pool, roll around the island in a golf cart, and eat shrimp and drink beer by the wharf.  Bliss.

Another long weekend up to Pennsylvania to see mom and the relatives and it will be time to pack up the house and start the LONG cross country trip to California.  Mom is coming with me to help wrangle Molly (Molly is a crappy traveler, so it will be helpful having someone else in the car to help with her).  Planning on taking I-40 for most of the trip across the country.  Anyone have any suggestions on things to see/places to stop along the way?  I've never done a cross country trip before, so I am pretty excited about that.

Okay, off to spend my last Sunday in Iraq.  Have my last Hash Run tonight...woohoo!

Congrats on being so close to coming home!

I've made the trip between Cali & DC or NC quite a few times driving. I really love doing that. If you can make time to stop in Nashville...do. I love that town. It's a great place to take photos if you're into that. It's fun to walk around downtown.

I don't have any tips on places to eat because I stop at random places each time. But I will say...don't stay in Memphis. Staying Memphis was a nightmare. I had to change hotels twice when I moved to DC in 2000 and I've never forgotten it. No joke it still gives me the willies. I've never stayed there on any of my other trips. I've always forced myself to drive longer to avoid it. I have done sight seeing (Sun Records & Graceland) there but I had such bad experiences in those two hotels, I refuse to do it again.

If you take I-40 all the way, Flagstaff is nice. There's a cool hotel on Route 66. It's just a Days Inn but it has this really cool, retro feel to it. The decor in the lobby and rooms is fun. Totally not what I expected from a Days Inn.

Also...there's a funky souvenir place in Arizona when you hit the painted cliffs area. You'll see it. Can't miss it. There's a tee pee and several stores and a small restaurant that serves Mexican. It's a unique place to stop. The people who own the store are super nice and it's fun to have a good laugh at all the odd chotchkies in there.

Between there and either 29 or Camp Pendleton/Miramar, I can't think of anything off the top of my head but you really have to stop at In N Out for a burger. Especially if you haven't before. You'll see them off the freeways with whichever of the bases you're going to.

I could ramble on forever, so I'll shut up now. :) Oh...by the way, I love Hairtage!

I believe the trading post the first person referred to is Tucumcari. You will not be able to miss it unless you close your eyes for about 100 miles. There are signs all over the place. It's fine, fun to stop at I guess.
